The Wilder ring, named after my daughter. She carved the original Wilder ring in wax in my studio, which is not for sale. I had instructed her to refine her piece a bit more before we cast, as to lighten it up and take out some of the weight. But then I stopped and admired the rawness of her creation as is. Unrefined and unapologetic and big. I was inspired to create my own version as a companion stacker for the Wilder ring called Seebe.
This Wilder ring casting has two sapphires, one which cracked in a few places, which can happen under extreme heat of the molten metal. We decided to leave this cracked stone, finding beauty in it's brokenness, secured for time (indefinite) in the silver around it. Perhaps it will stay there in it's pieces or fall away and leave a ghost of its impression. The metaphors are chilling. We marked this ring down because of the crack, but we all know our breaks truly make us more valuable.
This collection of sand cast statement rings embraces the weight of metal and is solid sterling silver weighing approximately 17-18 grams. These rings are weighty and playful wearable sculptures, raw and unrefined, yet polished enough to evoke the coveted patina of time.
